Bangwe Ntopwa Ward Councillor Isaac Jomo Osman has been elected as the new Mayor of Blantyre City.

Osman secured the position after winning 15 out of the 30 votes cast by city councillors.

The election took place during a full council meeting where councillors gathered to choose new city leadership.

His election marks a significant moment for Bangwe Ntopwa Ward which now sees its councillor rising to lead the entire city.

Osman thanked the councillors for trusting him with the responsibility of guiding Blantyre’s development agenda.

He pledged to work closely with all wards to ensure inclusive growth and improved service delivery.

In the same election, Limbe-Chiwembe Ward Councillor Gerald Lipikwe of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) was elected Deputy Mayor.

Lipikwe emerged second after receiving strong support from fellow councillors.

The new leadership duo is expected to drive key reforms aimed at enhancing the city’s infrastructure and governance.

Their election ushers in a new chapter for Blantyre City Council as it looks ahead to strengthening community engagement and municipal services.
