The Malawi Prison Service has strongly dismissed reports suggesting that suspects in the murder of Dr Victoria Bobe are inmates from its correctional facilities.

Speaking on behalf of the institution, Malawi Prison Service spokesperson, Steve Meke described the claims as false and misleading.

Meke said the reports circulating in some sections of the media and on social platforms have no factual basis.

He emphasized that Malawi Prison Service maintains strict and effective security systems to ensure that inmates do not leave prison unlawfully.

According to the spokesperson, the security measures in place also prevent inmates from being involved in criminal activities outside prison walls.

He explained that inmates are closely monitored at all times and cannot freely interact with external environments without authorization.

Meke warned that spreading unverified information risks misleading the public and damaging the reputation of the institution.

He further urged the public to rely on official statements from relevant authorities when seeking information on sensitive criminal investigations.

The clarification comes amid growing public debate and speculation surrounding the murder of Dr Victoria Bobe.

Over the past three days, social media platforms have been awash with claims alleging that the suspects in custody are prison inmates rather than the actual perpetrators.

Some users alleged that innocent individuals were arrested while the real suspects were being protected within prison facilities.

The Malawi Prison Service has categorically denied these allegations, insisting that they are baseless.

Authorities have since appealed for calm and patience as investigations into the murder continue through proper legal channels.
