The Nigerian Senate has passed the Federal Road Safety Corps (Amendment) Bill, 2026*.
The bill introduces tougher penalties for traffic offences and now awaits presidential assent.

Key new fines if signed into law:

For failure to obey traffic lights, road signs, pavement or road markings.
Also applies to speed limit violations, reckless driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs.

The Senate says this is to reduce distractions and improve commuter safety.
