ONE DEAD, THREE INJURED IN FATAL CRASH ON LAGOS COASTAL ROAD – LASTMA BOSS WARNS AGAINST OVER-SPEEDING

By Olayiwola Ibrahim // A fatal road crash claimed one life and left three others critically injured in the early hours of today along the Coastal Road inward Eko Hotel, Lagos.

The crash involved a grey Lexus Jeep 350 with registration number LSD 554 KV. Preliminary findings revealed that the driver lost control of the vehicle while on top speed, rammed into a roadside pole and overturned.

Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) who were on routine monitoring of the Coastal Road axis swiftly mobilized to the scene, cordoned off the affected section of the road and coordinated emergency rescue operations.

With the support of Good Samaritans, the three injured victims were extricated from the wreckage and rushed to Duck-Yard Hospital inside the Military Zone for urgent medical attention. One person was confirmed dead.

Security operatives from Victoria Island provided backup, while LASTMA officials promptly evacuated the mangled vehicle from the carriageway to prevent secondary accidents and restore free flow of traffic.

Reacting to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commiserated with the family of the deceased and cautioned motorists against excessive speeding and reckless driving.

He stated that over-speeding and loss of control remain major causes of fatal crashes, with devastating consequences for motorists and other road users, and urged drivers to adhere strictly to traffic regulations.

He further urged members of the public to report road crashes, breakdowns and other traffic emergencies via the LASTMA toll-free hotline 0800 00 LASTMA or Short Code 3367 for prompt response.
