Group Urges EFCC To Investigate Obasanjo Over $16b Electricity Fund
The Economic and financial crimes commission (EFCC) has been urged to look into the recent allegation made by president Muhammadu Buhari against former president Olusegun Obasanjo over about $16b to revamp the power sector when the latter held sway as the country’s number one citizen with no tangible results to wit.
In a press statement made available to Journalists in the early hours of Thursday 24/05/2018 in Lagos by the Centre Against Injustice and Domestic Violence (CAIDOV) and signed by it’s Director, Comrade Gbenga Soloki, reads ” This issue of $16b on electricity has been in the public domain for a long time but no Presidents after Obasanjo’s administration have been this bold to raise it publicly. It is on this note that, the issue should not be waved aside, it needs our attention. President Buhari cannot just make such a heavy allegation without having substantial evidence on his table. “
” In other climes, past leaders have been tried for corrupt practices and jailed. Even, South Africa here is not left out trying its past leaders or subjecting them to questioning for account of their stewardship. Ours, should not be different, if Obasanjo is found guilty he should face the music.”
Soloki further said “It is good that things are playing out like this, as this would send a strong signal to our politicians that it is no longer business as usual.”
The CAIDOV boss therefore called on EFCC and other agencies to swing into action and not to see the President’s allegation as mere political statement.
