2021; KWADEF Charges Kwara Governor; The group called on the governor to re-dedicate himself to providing purposeful leadership and delivering governance that will make life better for Kwarans and everyone that comes to do business in the state’
The Kwara Development Foundation, KWADEF has urged indigenes and residents of Kwara State to redouble their hope and vigilance in order to realize their individual and collective dreams for the state as the journey of the New Year 2021 begins.
The group in a New Year Message, signed by its President, Dr. Kolawole Afolabi and Publicity Secretary, Oluwasegun Abifarin recalled that the year 2020 has particularly been a challenging year for the State and the country in the wake of rampaging global covid-19 pandemic which overstretched the nation’s human and financial resources.
As at the 31st of December 2020, 1031 new confirmed cases and 11 deaths were recorded in Nigeria. Till date, 87510 cases have been confirmed, 73713 cases with 1289 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Kwara State records 1,414 confirmed cases with 31 fatalities
The Foundation therefore advised Kwarans not to enter 2021 with any grievance, pain or regrets, saying that all negative things should be left with 2020. “We need to congratulate ourselves for surviving the year 2020 with its dramatic upheaval which, no thanks to the Corona virus pandemic, shook human civilisation to its foundation. What a Year!” the group said.
KWADEF added that though while the pangs of the pandemic and the attendant social and economic crisis are still with us, there is hope that the worst is behind us, and therefore called on the government to intensify the process of rebuilding the state and restoring the confidence of the people.
The group called on the governor to re-dedicate himself to providing purposeful leadership and delivering governance that will make life better for Kwarans and everyone that comes to do business in the state.
KWADEF particularly urged the present administration in the state to accelerate the efforts to reposition Kwara for sustainable and inclusive growth in order to restore the lost glory of state. “The government should continue to pay special attention to the vulnerable and the poor, invest massively in basic amenities to guarantee better quality of life for our people and also help create more job opportunities to tame unemployment and vices among our youths.”
While praying for peace and prosperity for all, the group urged Kwarans to enter the New Year afresh, refreshed and with a renewed hope in themselves and in the State because Kwara remains the only place we have and we all can build it together.
