Lagosians Offer Support As Lagos Police Battle Cultism; ‘Odumosu lectured Officers and men of the state command on Police Communication Network and ordered them to take the battle against armed robbery and cultism to the criminals’ dens across the state’

By Wale Abydeen/LAGOS// The fear of the Eiye and Aiye confraternity seems to be the genesis of wisdom to many Lagosians in recent times. This is because young Nigerians; apparently between the ages of 14 and 30 now involve in deadly associations which they use to terrorize, maim and kill in the name of confraternity.
Confronting the menace headlong, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu vows to rid Lagos of armed robbers and cultists, noting that the adoption of Community Policing strategies will definitely aid the operations of the force.
On the 2nd day of the New Year 2021, Odumosu lectured Officers and men of the state command on Police Communication Network and ordered them to take the battle against armed robbery and cultism to the criminals’ dens across the state.
The CP’s instruction was like a morale boosting as the gallantry of the Lagos State Police Command is now been exhibited with its renewed war against cultism and other crimes.
On Friday 15th and Saturday 16th January, 2021, the police arrest eleven (11) suspected cultists, who have been terrorising Owode Elede, Agiliti, Maidan, Afinjuomo, all in Mile 12, Ketu area of Lagos State, at different operations carried out by the police operatives attached to Ketu Division of the command.
The suspected cultists are Yusuf Abiodun, m, 22, Jamiu Salami, m, 30, Dare Taiwo, m, 27, Oluwatobiloba Aberaman, m, Balogun Taofeek, m, 18, Samuel Owolabi, m, 16, Ejemina Godfrey, m, 39, Godwin Innocent, m, 22, Keneting Uduenga, m, 29, Ayeni Wales, m, 29 and Lekan Olajide, m, 22. Items recovered from them included one locally-made pistol with life cartridges, weed suspected to be Indian hemp and assorted charms.
Last week, eight (8) suspected criminals including three (3) suspected cultists, five (5) drug dealers and takers were picked up at different locations within the state. The suspects include Kabiru Tajudeen, m, Ibrahim Hamed, m, Elijah Ogbonna, m, Daniel Emmanuel, m, Chukwuma Abiaza, m, Rafiu Kolawole, m, Ibrahim Ogundimu, m, and Nwerrih Elvis, m.
Similarly, the police operatives attached to Akodo Division arrested two (2) suspected members of Aiye Confraternity at Eleko Beach in an attempt to attack their targets in the area on Saturday 2nd January 2021 at 1 pm.
The suspects are Adegbenga Balogun, M, 25, and Temitope Yusuf, M, 24. Items recovered from them include one locally-made pistol with some live cartridges and some charms.
Yesterday, Tuesday, 19th January, 2021 the police operatives attached to Ikorodu Division engaged some suspected members of Aiye Confraternity in a gun duel at Igbelara Area of Ikorodu, Lagos State. The area, according to SECURITY MONITOR findings is a hot bed of cultism and armed robbery.
Olumuyiwa Adejobi, a Chief Superintendet of Police, CSP and the state’s Police Public Relation Officer, PPRO stated that “the Police responded to a distress call from members of the public that some suspected cultists were seen at Igbelara Area with dangerous weapons to foment troubles and the police”.
According to CSP Adejobi, “the police, with the help of some community members, raced to the scene before the deadly gang opened fire on them. The police operatives, in a swift reaction, responded and engaged the men leaving some of them injured and they fled with the bullet wounds. Two of them, Waliyu, m, and Timileyin Omobolaji,m, were eventually arrested with wounds while one cut-to-size pistol, ten (10) expended cartridges and six (6) life cartridges were recovered from them” The PPRO added that the injured ones have been taken to hospital for medical attention.
Meanwhile, the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, always ordered that the suspects be transferred to State CID, Panti, Yaba, for proper investigation and prosecution. The CP constituently appealed to the general public, especially medical practitioners, to alert the police whenever they come across any of the fleeing suspected cultists with bullet wounds. The police boss commanded the gallantry of the police operatives and members of the public for their courage and commitment to tackle the deadly boys who have been terrorising the area and entire ikorodu. He further vowed to rid Lagos State of cultism and other vices as all hands are on deck to continually fight crimes and criminality to a halt in Lagos State.
