ACTIVIST SLAMS DEPUTY SENATE PRESIDENT, BARAU JUBRIN, PRAISES SENATOR SUMAILA KAWU
By Kayode Adeyemo // Activist and Convener of Anti-Drug Impact Foundation, Olayiwola Ibrahim, write in response to Senator Sumaila’s claims on his colleagues possessing hard drug with respect to the debate on a bill to establish the National Institute of Drug Awareness and Rehabilitation.
He writes that i am appalled by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin’s attempt to silence Senator Kawu Sumaila for speaking truth to power about the pervasive issue of drug abuse among some senators.
Ibrahim stated that ruling Senator Sumaila out of order for sharing his concerns is unacceptable and undermines the very principles of transparency and accountability that our nation desperately needs.
Instead of trying to sweep this issue under the rug, we should be commending Senator Sumaila for his courage and conviction.
His call for drug tests for politicians before contesting elections or assuming office is a step in the right direction, and we must support him in this fight.
As someone who has dedicated their work to combating drug abuse,i know firsthand the devastating impact it has on individuals, families, and communities.
In furtherance to this, the Convener said we cannot afford to have leaders who are compromised by their own addiction or ties to drug dealers.
Let us stand with Senator Sumaila and demand action from our leaders. We must create a culture of accountability and zero tolerance for drug abuse in all levels of government, Ibrahim urged.
Meanwhile the Government should also take into consideration on Senator Sumaila allegations, investigate thoroughly and hold those found guilty accountable by making them face the penalties for hoarding drug abuse.
While stressing on the needs for drug testing for politicians, he appealed that drug test must be made mandatory before conducting elections or assuming office.
Here are my key demands:
Investigation into Senator Sumaila’s allegations and hold those culpable for accountability.
Support for Anti-Drug Initiatives will Provide resources and support for organizations working to combat drug abuse and promote awareness.
Together, we can create a safer, healthier Nigeria where leaders are held to the highest standards of integrity.
Calling upon all meaningful Nigerians such as Community leaders, Religious Leaders, Educationist, Youths, Adults and Teens, Olayiwola Ibrahim added that drug abuse campaigns needs to start from every homes. Advicing all to stay away from drug abuse, addiction and trafficking.
