JUST IN: TIGHT SECURITY IN LAGOS ASSEMBLY AS OBASA PLANS RESUMPTION

The Lagos State House of Assembly has heightened its security measures as Mudashiru Obasa, the impeached Speaker, plans to resume duties. This comes amid growing tension surrounding the recent political developments within the Assembly.
Omotayo Adekemi, the acting Clerk of the House, issued a notice on Sunday, January 26, detailing the new security protocols. The notice emphasized that all staff and legislative aides must undergo thorough security checks before gaining access to the Assembly complex. Additionally, valid identity cards will now be mandatory for entry.
The notice stated: “Regarding management directives, all staff members and legislative aides must present valid Identity Cards to access the House premises. Entry will be denied to anyone without a valid Identity Card. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in this matter.”
Obasa, who was impeached while abroad in the United States, was replaced by Mojisola Meranda, the Deputy Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly. However, his removal has sparked controversy, with Obasa declaring his impeachment unconstitutional.
Upon his return to Lagos, Obasa held a press conference at the Ikeja lodge, where he met with supporters and associates. During the conference, he vowed to resume his role as Speaker on Monday, January 27. “My removal as Speaker was unconstitutional,” he asserted, indicating his intent to challenge the decision.
The heightened security measures underscore the delicate situation within the Lagos Assembly as it braces for potential confrontations over Obasa’s return. Stakeholders and political observers are closely monitoring the developments as the situation unfolds.
