The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has revealed plans to recruit qualified Nigerian youths into its ranks in 2025.

The Commandant-General of NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Audi, made this announcement on Wednesday in Abuja while commissioning the newly constructed NSCDC Bwari Divisional Office.

Dr. Audi stated that the corps had received approval to recruit employable Nigerians, though the exact date for the commencement of the exercise would be announced later.

“We are preparing to recruit. We appreciate Mr. President for the approval to enlist well-behaved Nigerians into the service,” he said.

He emphasized that the recruitment drive would create much-needed job opportunities for young Nigerians seeking careers in security and public service while also strengthening the nation’s security apparatus.

Dr. Audi highlighted that the commissioning of the Bwari Divisional Office marks a significant milestone in NSCDC’s efforts to expand its operational presence at the grassroots level.

He commended the Bwari Area Council for facilitating the initiative, stating that the new office would enhance security operations in the area.

“The corps is proud of you and poised to cooperate with you. We will provide the necessary assistance in reciprocation of your efforts,” he assured.

He also urged other area councils to follow the example of Bwari and Kwali, both of which have supported NSCDC operations by providing new office buildings.

Speaking at the event, the NSCDC FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, stressed the importance of local administrative support in strengthening security efforts.

“In this job of ours, where the security of lives and property is our top priority, the significance of strengthening grassroots administrative and operational activities cannot be overemphasized,” he said.

He praised the Bwari Area Council Chairman, Dr. John Gabaya, for his commitment to supporting the NSCDC, noting that the new office would enable the deployment of additional personnel and resources to the division.

Earlier, Dr. Gabaya expressed appreciation for the NSCDC’s contributions to security within the council.

He acknowledged the challenges faced by security agencies and pledged continued support for their operations.

“We have seen the fulfillment of this objective, which is why we have committed significant resources to this project,” he said.

Dr. Gabaya noted that the previous NSCDC office had operated in suboptimal conditions for over 25 years, making the new facility a significant achievement.

He commended the NSCDC for its role in tackling insecurity in Bwari and across the Federal Capital Territory, particularly in addressing kidnappings.

“Our people can now sleep with their eyes closed. We are grateful to the security agencies and pray that God grants you all the resources needed to defeat criminal elements,” he stated.

Dr. Gabaya also appealed to the NSCDC Commandant-General to allocate employment slots to the six area councils within the FCT as part of the upcoming recruitment exercise.

“The insecurity issues will come to an end. We, the six area council chairmen, have agreed that insecurity will soon be a thing of the past. We appeal to the NSCDC CG to allocate at least 30 to 50 employment slots to each area council,” he urged.

The event underscored the commitment of both NSCDC and local authorities to enhancing security and job opportunities for Nigerians.
