CHILD RIGHTS BODY CONDEMNS FILMING OF ABUSED GIRL DURING QUESTIONING

Relentless the Child Advocacy Centre, a child rights organisation in Malawi has strongly condemned the act of filming a minor while she was being questioned about the abuse she has allegedly experienced.
The organisation’s Executive Director, Memory Ngosi Chisenga said the conduct displayed in the circulating video violates the rights and dignity of the child.
Speaking in an interview, Chisenga explained that the video which has gone viral on social media shows a young girl being interrogated by unidentified individuals.
She emphasized that exposing a child in such a manner especially one who has reportedly been subjected to various forms of abuse is harmful and unlawful.
Chisenga stated that children who experience abuse require protection, privacy and qualified professional support, not public exposure.
She added that filming and sharing such sensitive material puts the child at further risk of psychological harm and secondary victimisation.
The organisation is particularly concerned because the video involves a girl believed to be around 12 years old who is seen responding to distressing questions from adults.
The circulating clip shows the child disclosing that she has been involved in inappropriate and exploitative encounters with multiple individuals in the Dowa District.
Chisenga described the situation as deeply troubling and indicative of serious child-protection failures within the community.
She urged the public to refrain from sharing the video and to recognise that such actions contribute to additional abuse.
The Child Advocacy Centre has called on the Malawi Police Service to immediately arrest all individuals involved in filming, interrogating, or circulating the video.
Chisenga concluded by stressing that the law must take its course and that all children deserve safety, respect and professional care whenever abuse is suspected.
