APC Drops Former Governor Gabriel Suswam, Replaces 26 National Assembly Candidates
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dramatically reshuffled its list of candidates for the 2027 National Assembly elections, dropping former Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam and replacing 26 candidates following appeals arising from the party’s primaries.
The revised list, submitted to INEC after approval by the APC National Working Committee (NWC), replaces 7 senatorial candidates and 19 House of Representatives nominees across Kogi, Benue, Abia, Ondo, Taraba, Kaduna, Ebonyi, Kwara and Niger states.
Among the biggest surprises, Gabriel Suswam lost the Benue North East senatorial ticket to Emmanuel Memga Udende, while former House of Representatives member Gbenga Elegbeleye was replaced by Olajide Ipinsagbe for Ondo North.
In Kogi West, Senator Sunday Karimi successfully reclaimed the party’s ticket after the Appeal Committee nullified the nomination of Aro Samuel Bamidele, ruling that he did not participate in the primary election.
Other notable changes include: • Prince Paul Ikonne replacing Edinburgh Erondu in Abia South. • Titus Zam replacing Benjamin Aber in Benue North West. • Shuibu Isa Lau replacing Mohammed Kabir Bello in Taraba North. • Adeniyi Adegbonmire replacing Taiwo Fasorati in Ondo Central.
The APC also replaced 19 House of Representatives candidates, saying the changes followed recommendations of its Primary Election Appeal Committee after reviewing petitions filed by aggrieved aspirants.
The revised list has now been transmitted to INEC, bringing an end to weeks of internal disputes over the party’s 2027 National Assembly tickets.
