LAGOS POLICE TO BEGIN STATEWIDE CRACKDOWN ON VEHICLES WITH HIDDEN OR MISSING NUMBER PLATES
By Olayiwola Ibrahim // The Lagos State Police Command will begin a statewide enforcement operation against vehicles with covered, obscured, unauthorized, defaced, or missing registration number plates.
The exercise follows a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM.
The goal is to improve public safety, strengthen security, and prevent criminals from hiding their identities and activities.
The operation starts on Monday, 15th June 2026, and will be led by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips.
All Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) across the State have been ordered to enforce the directive within their areas.
Any vehicle found violating the rule will be impounded and investigated according to existing laws and procedures.
The Command says the enforcement is not meant to harass law-abiding motorists. It is a proactive security measure to help police identify vehicles, investigate crimes, track suspects, and improve the overall security of the State.
Motorists, transport operators, fleet owners, and the public are advised to ensure their vehicles have valid, properly issued, and clearly visible number plates at all times. Vehicle owners should also keep all relevant documents current and ready for inspection.
The Command remains committed to protecting lives and property and making Lagos safer for residents and visitors. The success of this operation depends on public cooperation and support.
The Command appreciates Lagosians for their understanding and continued support.
Security is a shared responsibility. Residents are urged to stay alert and report suspicious persons, vehicles, movements, or activities through the Command’s emergency lines: 07061019374, 08065154338, 08063299264, 08039344870, and 09168630929.
