MoE POSTPONES OPENING OF THREE TEACHERS’ TRAINING COLLEGES

The Ministry of Education has announced a two-week postponement of the opening of three teachers’ training colleges due to infrastructure damage caused by Cyclone Chido.
The affected colleges are Kasungu, Phalombe, and Chikwawa, which were hit by the cyclone on December 16, 2024.
Cyclone Chido, which originated from the Indian Ocean, brought strong winds and heavy rainfall to Southern Malawi and parts of the Central region.
The cyclone destroyed school infrastructure and materials, disrupting the education sector.
In a statement signed by the Secretary of the Ministery, Mangani Chilala, the opening of the three affected teachers’ training colleges has been rescheduled from Monday, January 6, 2025, to Monday, January 20, 2025.
Read statement in part: “Maintenance work is currently underway to restore the damaged infrastructure and ensure a safe learning environment.
“All other education institutions in Malawi will commence their second term on January 6, 2025, as originally planned.”
The Ministry of Education has assured that necessary measures are being taken to minimize disruptions to the academic calendar.
The second term of the 2024/2025 education calendar will commence on January 6, 2025. The Ministry of Education has released the revised academic calendar, which includes the postponed opening dates for the affected teachers’ training colleges.
