LABSCA SLAMMED FOR OPPRESSIVE DEMOLITION AS HUMAN RIGHTS GROUP ALLEGED POLICE OF COLLUSION
By Olayiwiola Ibrahim // The Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA) has cautioned the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) over alleged corruption and unlawful activities, including collusion with the Nigerian Police Force to subvert the rule of law.
According to HURMA, LASBCA demolished four buildings in Bariga, Lagos, on December 2, 2025, without notice, and arrested and detained tenants, who were forced to pay ₦200,000 each for bail.
The agency claims the structures were certified by the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory.
HURMA’s Executive Director, Comrade Buna Olaitan Isiak, condemned LASBCA’s actions, saying, A common sense should tell anybody operating such sensitive position to ensure proper notification to occupants before carrying out the big tasks.
The group has appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the National Human Rights Commission to intervene and ensure justice for the affected families.
Buna noted that the cries of the poor and oppressed must be prevented to rise to the Almighty Creator.
He emphasized that the tenants whom were detained and arrested unlawfully at Lagos State Task Force are still in trauma, nothing that they were seriously beaten and soaked with blood while in detention.
Adding that LABSCA Officials nowadays work with impunity in collaboration with the Nigerian Police Force, to subvert the rule of law, thereby calling upon the Inspector General of Police, Mr Egbetokun Kayode to rise to this complaint.
He urge Governor Sanwo Olu to take a critical look into this allegation and move swiftly by taking necessary actions to stop any further incidents as such.
