DAARU NA’IM CONFERENCE CALLS FOR SOUND ISLAMIC CREED TO ADDRESS SOCIAL INSTABILITY
By Olayiwiola Ibrahim // Lagos// The Daaru Na’im Academy for Shariah Sciences has convened an international conference in Lagos, bringing together Islamic scholars, government officials, and traditional leaders from across the globe to discuss the importance of sound Islamic creed in addressing social instability.
The 17th International Conference, themed The Jurisprudence of the Sound Creed (Fiqh al-‘Aqīdah) and Contemporary Challenges, features over 20,000 participants, including ambassadors, heads of Islamic affairs, and academic scholars from Nigeria, the US, Saudi Arabia, Africa, Asia, and Europe.
In his opening remarks, the Director-General and Chief Imam of Daaru Na’im, His Eminence, As-Shaykh Dr. Imran AbdulMajeed Eleha, emphasized the need for sound Islamic belief to address contemporary challenges facing societies.
We are gathered here to examine the significance of sound Islamic belief for various African societies and countries in light of the changes, practices, and behaviors witnessed in contemporary communities on some of which contradict the principles of correct Islamic creed,” he said.
The conference features special lectures and academic papers presented by distinguished scholars, including Prof. Shaykh Abdur-Razaq AbdulMajeed Alaro and Dr. Muneerud-Deen Salahud-Deen Ariyady.
Shaykh (Dr.) Imran Eleha called on Islamic scholars to unite and prioritize collective scholarly engagement to uplift Islam and Muslims in Nigeria.
Eminent personalities, including the Deputy Minister of Islamic Affairs, Saudi Arabia, and the Palestinian Ambassador to Nigeria, attended the conference.
Abubakar Sadiq Muhammad, Representative of the President of the Islamic Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria, spoke highly of the event, describing the gathering as superb and noting that it was truly an international program with representatives from all over the world”.
Focusing on the theological theme being addressed, Muhammad stressed that the purpose of the conference was rooted in the foundational principles of Islam.
He clearly articulated the essence of the teachings: “The bedrock and the basis and the foundation of religion is the creed, the oneness of Allah, and that is what the conference is emphasising.
He explained that all subsequent teachings to be shared at the event would aim at spiritual development and rectification, specifically focusing on cleansing and sanitising and standardising what a Muslim should do first even before he says Allahu Akbar to be a Muslim, a good Muslim, one who recognises and worships Allah alone without associating patterns to him.
Muhammad reiterated the profound importance of this focus, concluding that this fundamental principle is the essence of this conference and that is what everybody should know first before any other thing.
Speaking at the event, the Oba Oniwo Iwo Kingdom, HRM Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi preaches that Islam is a religion of peac, love and unity.
He mentioned that his purpose of being the crowned King during the struggles of elected is to shed more lights to colleagues on the propaganda surrounding the doctrine of Kingships.
The Olofin of Isheri land, Oba Ibrahim Olasunkanmi Lawal Bello, calls for more collaborative efforts among all the kingships in yoruba land, noting that the need to make a clear move on Islam must be their priorities.
He praised Sheikh Imran Abdulmojeed Eleha for the efforts put together in gathering Muslims Scholars all around the world in propagating Islam in a meaningful way.
In another dimension, the Palestine Ambassador to Nigeria, Mohammed AlHammouri emphasized on more meaningful programs as such stating that such move will enhance good development to Islam.
