● Community police partnership strengthens

Zomba Police Station is expected to reopen the Chipini Police Unit following significant progress in the reconstruction of the facility, marking a positive step toward improved security in the area.

On January 6, 2026, the Officer in Charge for Zomba Police Station, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Aubrey J. Kawale, conducted an inspection tour of several police units that have already been constructed within the district.

During the visit to Chipini, DCP Kawale met with community members who played a key role in rebuilding the police unit, acknowledging their commitment and active participation in promoting safety and security.

The development was confirmed by Constable Andrew Mwale, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Zomba Police Station, who highlighted the importance of community involvement in the success of the project.

Mwale said Kawale praised residents for working hand in hand with the police to address crime related challenges, describing the collaboration as essential to effective policing.

He further noted that Kawale assured the community that officers deployed to the Chipini Police Unit would be professional, disciplined, and dedicated to serving the public.

Kawale also reminded residents that police units are community driven initiatives, calling on them to protect the infrastructure and refrain from acts of vandalism that could undermine their own safety.

Emphasizing peaceful engagement, Kawale urged community members to resolve any misunderstandings with the police through dialogue and mutual respect.

As part of the same tour, Kawale visited other police formations under his jurisdiction, including Chingale Police Post and Masaula Police Unit, where he interacted with officers and assessed their operational readiness.
